In one of the biggest reveals to be announced all year, Marvel has officially confirmed The Inhumans project in development. The original plan to create a full length feature for the Inhumans was scrapped early last year. Originally, the Inhumans film was expected to premiere during Phase 3 of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe but those plans were left indefinitely postponed. But now, new reports indicate that Marvel is moving forward with a new Marvel TV series, titled The Inhumans.

The Inhumans Are Joining ABC

A brief description of The Inhumans was released with the announcement made on The Hollywood Reporter.com

ABC’s The Inhumans will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.

Breaking Down The Brief Plot Description Of The Inhumans ABC’ Series.

While the description is brief, it tells quite a bit of the plot by itself. For one, Black Bolt is at the center of it all. And with the addition of the royal family to the series’ description, it’s fairly obvious that The Inhumans will take place on Attilan. As the homeworld to ancient Inhumans, Attilan, has been moved from place to place and is most characterized for being a highly advanced technological city.

The timeline or era in which The Inhumans will take place on the other hand, is still quite mysterious despite the additional line crediting the Royal Family being tacked on in the description. There are quite a few members of the Royal Family in Marvel comics which makes it difficult to determine what era in the Inhumans history will be explored. However, there’s only two logical points in time for The Inhumans to be placed in.

One being imminently before Black Bolt becomes king of Attilan. His rise to power would reasonably depict him on a assortment of adventures before taking the crown. And that quest for the crown would likely see Black Bolt interacting with various members of the Royal Family. Although, it’s also possible The Inhumans will take place well after Black Bolt has become king of Attilan.

Could A Struggle For Power Be At The Center Of The Inhumans?

In the scenario of Black Bolt already being king, it would mean the Royal Family in question is that of Black Bolt’s closest blood relatives and wife. His wife being Medusa could definitely accompany Black Bolt in The Inhumans. On more than one occasion, Medusa has filled in for Black Bolt as leader of the Inhumans in Attilan.

Black Bolt’s brother, Maximus might also have a pivotal role to play. Although, Maximus has a history of attempting to usurp the throne of Attilan in Marvel Comics. So, were Maximus to have a part in The Inhumans, he would most likely be the antagonist, attempting to have Black Bolt dethroned. Maximus has been known to be quite a threat to Black Bolt in Marvel comics, so an iteration of Maximus on ABC’s The Inhumans could definitely see a power struggle to be king of Attilan taking place.

If you’re not familiar with Black Bolt, he is the king of Attilan but he can’t speak. Black Bolt’s abilities give him an enormously powerful voice that keeps him from speaking. Even a whisper can knock down an entire building, Black Bolt can only safely communicate with others through telepathic means.

So in the scenario of Maximus contriving a plan to have Black Bolt dethroned, Maximus would only need to remove any telepath capable of transmitting Black Bolt’s thoughts to others, in order to manipulate the rest of the Royal Family in citing a coup on Black Bolt. The task wouldn’t be simple but an Inhuman like Maximus is capable of conjuring up some treacherous lie to persuade the Royal Family into dethroning Black Bolt.

Something else you might not be familiar with, are the laws and order of Attilan. Black Bolt stands as king of Attilan but his family, the Royal Family, also have a say in how the state of Attilan is run which is why their determination of Black Bolt being a traitor could see him wrongfully dethroned. Although, a whole revenge plot with a Royal Family at the center of it would be quite similar to a telling of Hamlet, but who wouldn’t want to see a Marvel TV series take a note from Shakespeare? Marvel is exploring all kinds of territories, so a dramatic telling could be just what Marvel Studios has in mind for ABC’s The Inhumans.

What do you want to see take place on ABC’s The Inhumans? A fight for control over the Inhuman state of Attilan? Struggle for power between Black Bolt and Maximus? In-fighting between Inhuman brothers and sisters? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
